I read this column in the Chicago Tribune twelve years ago when it first ran, in June of 1997.

I was a sophomore in high school then …

“Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they’ve faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.”

Even after all these years, I still get chills listening to this song.

I suppose it’s the kind of advice which accumulates shades and depth of meaning as you grow older.

 I forgot how much I love this.  And listening to it almost 10 years later than the first time, I can’t belive how much of it is true.  I don’t want to get any older!
